Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav said at the Parliamentary State Affairs Committee on Sunday that the EC was concerned over whether the Voters' ID cards could be distributed each voter's hands in the span of time.
He informed the lawmakers that the EC planned to deliver ID cards to polling stations by May 10 and distribute them on the following three days at the polling centres.
The poling officers are expected to reach the polling centres by May 10. The EC plans to deliver the Voters' ID cards along with them.
The election body has made ID cards with photographs mandatory for being able to cast vote in the upcoming elections. The move is expected to reduce duplication of voters. However, delayed distribution of ID cards could result in all the eligible voters not being able to receive them.
