RJPN accuses govt of dishonouring deal, warns of consequences
The Sanghiya Gathabandan comprising Madhes-based political parties on Wednesday warned of resorting to agitation in protest against the agreement between the ruling and opposition parties to not increase the number of local units immediately. The Sanghiya Gathabandan comprising Madhes-based political parties on Wednesday warned of resorting to agitation in protest against the agreement between the ruling and opposition parties to not increase the number of local units immediately.
The warning comes shortly after the ruling parties and main opposition CPN-UML reached an agreement to roll back on the recent decision to increase the number of local units in 11 district.
Though the agreement between the ruling parties and main opposition CPN-UML paved the way for resuming the obstructed Legislature-Parliament, the same agreement has disappointed the Madhes-centric parties.
Accusing the government of dishonouring the “gentlemen’s agreement”, Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RJPN)’s Rajendra Mahato warned of serious consequences for the same.
“We are agitating side, the government has already agreed to increase the number of local units in 11 districts in proportion to population,” said Mahato, “But its consequences would be serious if the government backs down from the agreement before its implementation. We will soon come up with our decision.”
Another RJPN leader Sharat Singh Bhandari said that the government has completely breached the agreement and warned of fresh stir. “It was the government who reached the gentlemen’s agreement with us. Based on the agreement we called off our agitation programmes,” said Bhandari. He said it was a bad decision.
CPN-UML Parliamentary Party leader Subash Nembang said that the recent government decision to increase the number of local units was in violation of Election Code of Conduct. He said the ruling parties decided to withdraw the decision after the opposition party consistently reminded about it.
