General Secretary of Nepal Kumal Sangh, a sister organisation of the ruling Nepali Congress (NC), was injured after he was attacked with khukuri in Dhading on Tuesday.

Thakur Kumal sustained injuries on his hands, legs and neck, apparently in an attack by his own party member, police said.

Critically injured in the attack, Kumal was initially taken to the District Hospital for treatment and later airlifted to Kathmandu on a Nepal Army chopper for further treatment.

He is undergoing treatment at the Dhapasi-based Grande International Hospital.

Ram Bahadur Tamang and Hemanta Duwadi had attacked Kumal with the sharp weapon while he was returning home on his bike at around 10 am today, eye witnesses said.

Both Tamang and Duwadi are the cadres of Nepali Congress.

It has been learnt that the incident occurred following a dispute over election ticket.
