The Department of Archaeology (DoA) has initiated renovation of Anantapur Temple at the Swoyambhunath stupa complex in Kathmandu.
The magnitude7.8 earthquake of April 25, 2015 and its aftershocks had damaged the temple that is situated in the religious monument enlisted in the Unesco World Heritage Site.
Although two years have elapsed since the quake and its toll on the temple, the Swoyambhu Management and Conservation Committee had not been able to renovate the temple due to the lack.
The DoA has, thus, stepped in to rebuild the temple of historical, cultural and religious significance, said DoA Director General Bhesh Narayan Dahal, adding the renovation is expected to be completed by mid-July. The DoA has also been conducting a study of other quake-damaged stupas and heritages for restoration.
