Impeachment motion against Karki still not withdrawn

The parties had agreed with main opposition CPN-UML on Saturday to withdraw the motion as per the latter’s demand. However, it is learnt the ruling coalition has simply postponed the impeachment process.
NC lawmaker Min Bishwokarma and Maoist Centre chief whip Tek Bahadur Basnet wrote a letter to Parliament Secretariat on Sunday urging it not to forward the impeachment motion. In the letter, the duo mentioned ‘request to not forward the impeachment motion considering the present political scenario of the country’.
Bishwokarma was the proposer of the motion while Basnet had seconded it on April 30.
On May 5, the Supreme Court had issued an interim order staying the impeachment of Karki.
