CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has said that re-polling in Bharatpur Metropolitan City will not be acceptable to his party.CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has said that re-polling in Bharatpur Metropolitan City will not be acceptable to his party.
Former Prime Minister Oli, who went to the Election Commission (ECH) with senior leaders of his party on Tuesday, said that his party would not agree if the decision was made to hold re-election in Bharatpur on the basis of a report of the probe committee formed to investigate the Bharatpur incident.
CPN (Maoist Centre) cadres on Sunday night allegedly tore down ballot papers at the vote counting venue in Bharatpur.
Leader Oli on Monday had also telephoned Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhi Prasad Yadav and urged him to go to Chitwan and inquire about the incident.
The ruling parties—Nepali Congress and Maoist Centre—have been demanding re-election in Bharatpur Metropolitan City accusing the CPN-UML of capturing the ballot papers.
“I am also a student of law, ballot papers were not taken under control in Bharatpur,” said UML Parliamentary Party leader Subash Nembang, adding “The ballot papers were torn down by two cadres of ruling party.”
Saying the decision to conduct re-polling in Bharatpur would set a bad precedent and promote criminal activities, the UML leaders urged CEC Yadav to think twice before making the decision.
UML leader Nemang accused the ruling party cadres of tearing the ballot papers against the constitution and election code of conduct at a time when the party’s mayoral candidate Devi Gyawali was leading the vote count.
Counting of votes from 27 of 29 wards of the Bharatpur Metropolitan City, where CPN-UML’s Devi Gyawali and Maoist Centre’s Renu Dahal are in fray for the mayoral post, has already been completed. The Nepali Congress and CPN-UML had forged electoral alliance in Bharatpur Metro.
