The House was scheduled to conduct the voting for picking the new prime minister.
During the first part of House meeting today, top leaders of big three political parties—outgoing Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli—addressed the parliament.
In their addresses, PM Dahal and UML Chairman Oli exchanged tirade at each other. Likewise, NC President Deuba thanked Pushpa Kamal Dahal for successfully conduction the first phase of local elections despite the adverse circumstances.
The House meeting resumed after the CPN-UML agreed to let the Parliament resume following an agreement between the big three political parties. The main opposition CPN-UML had been obstructing the Parliament in protest against the Election Commission (EC)’s decision to conduct re-election in Ward 19 of Bharatpur Metropolitan City.
Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba is the sole candidate running for the prime minister’s post.
