The election body has called on the political parties and independent candidates to nominate their candidates on Sunday for the second phase polls at the concerned election offices.
The EC is gearing up to hold the second phase elections in 335 local units of 35 districts in the three provinces. “It is well known to everyone that the nomination filing deadline for the second phase of local elections has been extended to June 18 (Sunday) on the request of government,” the EC said at a press meeting in Kathmandu on Saturday.
Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav informed that nomination filing will be held from 8 am to 4 pm on Sunday in the election offices of the three provinces.
On June 28, elections for the posts of mayors, deputy mayors, chiefs, deputy chiefs, and ward members will be held in one Metropolitan City, seven Sub-Metropolitan Cities, 111 municipalities and 215 village councils. A total of 64,32,765 voters are eligible to vote in the second phase local polls, according to EC.
The EC has designated 4581 voting centeres and 8364 booths and deployed 66,900 employees for conducting the second phase polls.
The government on Thursday had deferred the second phase of local polls in Province 2 to bring the agitating RJP-N on board the elections process. In a bid to bring the agitating RJP-N on board the poll process, the government has rescheduled voting in Province 2 for September 18.
