The Nepali Embassy in the Saudi capital Riyadh has identified the deceased as Bal Krishna Basnet, 43, of Diktel-1, Khotang and Jhabindra Prasad Banjade of Dang, who were working as drivers at Jubail-based Global Environmental Management Service Company.
Basnet died on the spot, while Banjade breathed his last on the way to a hospital, according to the embassy. The company’s safety officer had found the victims lying unconscious beside a vehicle. “They [victims] should have stayed inside the safety room. But they seemed to have fallen asleep inside their vehicle with air-conditioning on,” said another Nepali migrant worker.
“Fanned by blowing wind, the gases entered the vehicle through the air condition. The occupants breathed on it and were killed.”
