The Election Commission has accused former Election Secretary Gopinath Mainali of deliberately creating obstructions during the first phase of local level elections. The Election Commission has accused former Election Secretary Gopinath Mainali of deliberately creating obstructions during the first phase of local level elections.
In a statement on Tuesday, the election body said that the first phase of local polls was conducted on May 14 despite hurdles created by Mainali.
The EC said that the election materials could not be arranged on time during the first phase of local polls following Mainali’s pressure, irresponsible and unnecessary threats.
The EC, however, did not disclose what kind of hindrances Mainali created during the first phase of local polls.
Similarly, the election body did not say anything about its move to buy high-end vehicles.
Mainali has alleged that the EC was planning to buy SUVs for commissioners “skirting the existing laws” and that he was transferred after he objected to the decision.
The Election Commission (EC) has called on the government to create an atmosphere so as to keep Mainali within bounds of professional and moral discipline.
Mainali was transferred to the Office of Prime Minister and Council of Ministers on June 22.
