Former SSP convicted in Sudan scam sent to jail

Rana, a permanent resident of KMC-4, surrendered to the Supreme Court this afternoon, SC spokesperson Mahendranath Upadhyay said. Later, the court sent him to the Dillibazaar-based central jail.
Earlier, the SC had sentenced him six months in prison along with a fine of Rs 30,000 on the case pertaining to embezzlement of state funds during the procurement of Armed Personnel Carriers and other equipment meant for Nepali peacekeepers in Sudan.
The punishment was declared as per the Clause 8(1) of the Prevention of Corruption Act -2002.
Likewise, former Additional Inspector General (AIG) Shyam Singh Thapa, another convict in the scam, had surrendered to the court on June 25 and is cooling his heels in the Dillibazaar-based central jail.
The SC slapped him one year in prison and a fine of Rs 40,000.
Former IGPs—Om Bikram Rana and Hem Bahadur Gurung, former DIGs Deepak Singh Thangden and Deepak Kumar Shrestha, other guilty in the scam are also in the Dillibazaar-based central jail. RSS
