Inaugurating the first assembly of Suryabinayak Municipal Executive in Bhaktapur on Friday, Oli said his party would not accept the government’s mooted move to trim authority of local bodies.
“The government is mooting laws to curtail the authority of local units against the concept of three-tier administration—federal, provincial and local/municipal—enshrined in the new constitution. It won’t be acceptable to the CPN-UML,” said Oli.
He noted that only properly authorised and powerful local bodies can contribute in overall development of a nation. He added there is no alternative for all the political parties to work together for the development.
At the programme, lawmaker Rameshwor Dhungel, former Minister Mahesh Basnet, CPN-UML central member Sanu Shrestha, among other leaders, remarked that the authority granted to the local units should not be curtailed.
