Nitish Kumar steps down as Bihar CM

- Post Report, Kathmandu

Jul 26, 2017-Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar resigned from the post on Wednesday citing irreconcilable differences with ally RJD on the issue of corruption charges against his deputy Tejashwi Yadav.

Kumar submitted his resignation to Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi, Indian media reports said. He took such decision at a meeting of JDU MLAs on Wednesday evening. His decision to quit was endorsed by MLAs.

It is believed that the development will further widen the rift between the two parties.

Talking to media after his resignation, Kumar said his decision to step down in the interest of Bihar, Indian Express said in its report.

“Ever since the corruption charges were levelled against RJD leaders, we have been asking them to at least explain those charges. We also met Tejashwi and told him that the image that is being created, he should clarify all that. But this did not happen. The situation got so worse that it became difficult for me to work. We had followed the Gathbandhan Dharma and had tried to protect it. But now my conscience does not allow me to continue,” Indian Express quoted Kumar as telling.
