Mime workshop at Mandala
A five-day Mime Workshop kicked off on Thursday at the Mandala Theatre in Anamnagar.A five-day Mime Workshop kicked off on Thursday at the Mandala Theatre in Anamnagar. Organised by Mandala in association with Indian Culture Centre, the workshop will be mentored by actor Bijaya Baral, who last appeared in the Nepali adaptation of the play Antigone. While reknowned Indian mime artist Niranjan Goswami will facilitate a session for the participants as part of the workshop.
Mime is a form of performance art in which actors tell the story with their body and gestures, without any voicing. The concept of mime was first compounded in ancient Greek theatre and later the art form was adapted into films as well, especially in the silent films in the early twentieth century.
After the workshop, a troupe of visiting mime artists from the CV Raman Auditorium, from India, will perform a show at Kathmandu Univeristy in Dhulikhel, on July 30. The troupe are also slated to perform at the Nepal Army Officers’ Club in the Capital on July 31.
The workshop which started on Thursday will continue till Monday.
