Re-election in ward no. 19 of Bharatpur Metropolitan City in Chitwan district has been scheduled for August 4.
An all-party meeting held at the office of Chief Election Officer in the district finalised the election date on Tuesday. The Election Office, however, is yet to make official announcement about the dates.
Assistant Election Officer Gambhir Ghimire said the parties based in the district have agreed to conduct re-election in the ward on August 4. Meanwhile, the EC is preparing to make its official announcement, said Ghimire.
The Supreme Court had, on Sunday, issued a verdict upholding Election Commission’s decision to conduct re-election in the ward where vote counting was stalled after CPN (Maoist Centre) cadres allegedly tore 90 ballot papers on May 28.
Following the decision, the Election Commission on Monday instructed chief election officers to finalise the election date for conducting re-election in ward 19.
The first phase of local level elections was held across three provinces (3, 4 and 6) of the country on May 14. UML mayoral candidate Devi Gyawali was leading the race against CPN (Maoist Centre)’s Renu Dahal in Bharatpur Metropolitan City in province 3.
