Accusing the government of playing a role to split the party, a central committee meeting of the party held on Tuesday afternoon decided to withdrew support to the government.
Earlier on Sunday, the RPP, the fourth largest force in the Parliament, had faced another split with senior leader Pashupati Shumsher Rana applying for party registration at the Election Commission.
The dispute between Thapa and Rana came to the fore on July 14 after the latter issued a statement accusing the chair of running the party in an “autocratic” manner.
RPP led by Rana and the RPP-Nepal headed by Thapa had merged in November last year and formed the RPP.
RPP leaders are engaged in a blame game after the party fared poorly in the two phases of local level elections.
Earlier on March 29, another senior leader Prakash Chandra Lohani had parted ways citing differences with Thapa on the election symbol and the issue of monarchy.
Meanwhile, the party urged the government to address the demands of Dr Govinda KC, who has been staging hunger strike for the past 16 days at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, at the earliest.
