The runway has been filled with muddy waters up to three feet after the flooding incident, according to Tribhuvan International Airport spokesperson Prem Nath Thakur.
The airport authorities along with security personnel have been working to wash away the sludge deposited by the floods and they are using water hose from the Biratnagar Fire Brigade truck to clear the muddied runway.
About 200 NA personnel have been mobilised to clear the airport runway with the help of various equipments and are expected to bring the airport back into operation by Saturday.
According to Chief at Civil Aviation Authority, Biratnagar, Suresh Man Shrestha, they are planning to resume the air services by August 19 if the monsoon favours them.
Only an aircraft of Shree Airlines has been parked on the runway. This aircraft had landed in the airport on August 11.
The airport will resume services soon after CAAN technicians give the go-ahead after inspecting electrical equipments on the runway, navigation, radio frequency and damages in the runway, if any.
