On August 10, the team had issued an appeal for discussions on “broader alliance with pro-change forces” including the CPN (Maoist Centre).
Having differences with Naya Shakti coordinator Baburam Bhattarai on ideological issues, a group of senior leaders was agitated. “We had to appeal publicly about the party’s political line after the recent Central Council meeting also failed to take a concrete decision and the leadership remained indifferent to our concern,” the 17 leaders said in a statement on Friday. Following the announcement, the Naya Shakti Nepal asked them to clarify their move.
According to leader Mukti Pradhan, the “broader polarisation coordination committee” would hold a gathering at the earliest and take necessary decisions for unification with progressive forces.
The committee includes Bamdev Chhetri, Pasang Sherpa, Kumar Poudel, Mahendra Paswan, Mukti Pradhan, Sushila Shripaili, Balawati Sharma, Tilak Thapa, Amardhoj Lama, Bahid Ansari, Hari Chaulagain, Ratna Rana, Rabindra Sunuwar, Lalit Thagunna and Kul Bahadur Moktan.
Earlier, a group of leaders had met Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and discussed about the possibility of unification with the party. The Maoist Centre has already invited the Naya Shakti and other Maoist splinters for unification. Coordinator Bhattarai has turned down the proposal.
Naya Shakti leaders including Ram Chandra Jha, Ram Kumar Sharma, Mumaram Khanal and Rameshwor Khanal have already parted ways with Bhattarai.
