The Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the banking sector regulator, has directed banks and financial institutions not to seek identity cards from people who come to deposit up to Rs100,000. Earlier, banks and financial institutions were told to obtain a copy of identity card of people who deposited even a rupee in accounts that do not belong to them. The NRB has now said no identity card will be required to deposit up to Rs100,000 even in accounts that do not belong to the depositor.
