Number of Himalayan Tahr increases in Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve

There are 388 such goat antelopes recorded in the Reserve. The number stood at 285 in the last census held in 2012.
Himalayan Tahr, which is native of Nepal, India and China, is enlisted in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
The counting was made by the office of the Reserve in all seven blocks of the Reserve situated in the foothill of Mt Dhaulagiri and Rukum, Myagdi and Baglung districts.
According to Adanath Baral, Chief Conservation Officer at the Reserve, of the total 388 number of Himalayan Tahr found in the Reserve, the sex of 327 goat antelope were identified while the sex of 61 are still left to be found.
Chief Conservation Officer Baral added that of the identified Himalayan Tahr, 162 were male and 165 female.
The wild animal tops the list of preference among the foreigners visiting the Reserve for hunting, said Baral. RSS
