Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Rtd), the governor-general of the Commonwealth of Australia, sent a congratulatory message to President Bidya Devi Bhandari on the occasion of the Constitution Day of Nepal, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA).
The governor-general, on behalf of the government and people of Australia as well as on his own, has extended best wishes to the President of Nepal as well as to the government and people of Nepal on the occasion, MoFA said. “The governor-general also congratulated Nepal for the successful conduct of the local elections that took place in 20 years,” a MoFA statement said.
“It was encouraging to see the enthusiasm with which the Nepalis engaged in the democratic process. As a federation itself, Australia appreciates the unique challenges for Nepal in transitioning to a federalist system and is committed to supporting Nepal in the process,” the MoFA statement quoted the Australian governor-general as saying in his message to President Bhandari. “The governor-general also expressed confidence that the friendly relations between Nepal and Australia will continue to prosper in the coming years.”
The second anniversary of the Constitution of Nepal was observed on Tuesday, a day after the last leg of local polls was held in the eight districts of Province 2.
