Indian authorities released Dev Narayan Yadav, who was detained by the Indian police on October 1, along with his son Ajaya on Saturday.
A single bench of Judge Abhishek Ranjan of the Sub-divisional Court in Birpur, Supaul, ordered the Yadav duo’s release after the hearing concluded on Friday. They were freed on general date.
Indian police had detained Dev Narayan, a local leader of Koiladi Tilathi in Saptari who raised voices against alleged boarder encroachment by India, and his son Ajay Kumar from the bordering Indian village of Adars Gram Panchayat on October 1. According to the family source, Indian police first detained Ajay as he went to the bordering Indian village to attend a cultural programme. Dev Narayan was caught later as he went there to free his son.
Indian authorities said Dev Narayan and Ajay were arrested as a charge was filed against them of abducting Jyoti Kumari of Kunauli-1.
Jyoti’s brother had filed a case against them after the 18-year-old eloped with Ajay in May. She married Ajay and is living with him. Jyoti on Friday told the Indian court that she was not abducted but had chosen to marry Ajay.
Locals of Koiladi Tilathi claimed that Dev Narayan was caught for his campaign to defend the border. A clash had occurred between Nepali and Indian nationals at
Tilathi in July, 2016, leaving at least 12 injured. The Nepali side had removed the levee that the Indian side had built allegedly encroaching on the no-man’s-land.
