Dengue outbreak claims one in Jhapa, around 300 infected

The deceased has been identified as Sunita Baral Adhikari, 35, of Arjundhara Municipality-7, District Public Health Office (DPHO) confirmed.
As many as 341 people from various places of the district were infected with dengue as of Wednesday, said Kul Bahadur Paudel, focal person at the epidemiology section of the DPHO.
He said Adhikari was diagnosed with dengue on October 22.
Adhikari was already infected with dengue when she was admitted to the Birtamode-based Birta City Hospital for treatment, doctors said. She was referred to Biratnagar for further treatment after her condition suddenly deteriorated.
Adhikari breathed her last during the course of treatment at Nobel Hospital in Biratnagar, Paudel informed.
Dengue cases were seen in the district from the third week of September. At least 300 people were diagnosed with dengue in Biratamode alone.
Paudel said that 96 persons are receiving treatment at Biratamode-based B &C Hospital, 90 at Manmohan Hospital, 69 at Birat City, 30 at Medica Hospital, 26 at Kankai Hospital, seven at the lab of DPHO, six at Lifeline Hospital in Damak, five at a health post in Kakadbhitta, five at a health post in Sanischare, three at Prajen Clinic in Birtamode, three at Yadav Clinic and one at Mechi Zonal Hospital in Bhadrapur.
It has been learnt that two dozen business of Birtamode had undergone treatment in Siliguri of India.
Dengue was first seen in the district in 2012.
The disease is transmitted through the bite of the mosquito of the female mosquito (Aedes aegypti). High fever, headache, rashes in the body and body ache are symptoms of the disease.
