The clash erupted after the police personnel tried to control demonstration staged by locals demanding action against three people arrested on the charge of murdering 11-year-old Laxman Siwakoti in Arjundhara on September 30.
Police fired dozens of tear gas shells to contain the situation. Few people were reported injured in the clash.
According to DSP Bishnu KC, the curfew has been imposed from 1:30 pm today till further notice.
The curfew has been enforced from Buspark area in East, Charpane in West, Mahananda Chok in North and Birta Bazaar in South to avert the possible untoward incidents, DSP KC said.
Siwakoti, who had gone missing on the day of Dashain Tika, was found dead the next day. His body was recovered from the bush at Bisawadi of Birtamod-1.
Later, the deceased's uncle Bishnu Prasad Siwakoti filed a complaint at the District Police Office, Jhapa, against Suresh Pokhrael among eight members of his family on the murder charge. Pokharel is the resident of Birtamod-5.
SP Bishnu KC of the District Police Office, Jhapa, said that they are working their best to bring the situation back to normalcy.
