Folk crafts fest kicks off today

The India-Nepal Folk Crafts Festival—themed ‘redefining folk crafts towards sustainable development’—which aims to promote crafts-based bilateral relations and to enhance artisan-based cultural exchange between the two countries, is slated to start from November 7 at Bhrikutimandap in the Capital.

The crafts Festival-cum-Exhibition is slated to feature more than 50 artisans and craft persons from India along with more than 30 participating artisans from various parts of Nepal.

“Cross-cultural festivals are an ideal opportunities for effective tie-up and comprehensive collaboration between Nepal and India for a larger cooperation in the field of arts and crafts, thus providing a platform to the artisans to exchange ideas and explore trade collaborations between the two countries,” said organisers, South Asia Foundation (SAF), issuing a press statement on Monday.

The fest will feaature over 80 thematic pavilions with a focus on folk crafts from both the countries, live demonstration by craft-persons, design workshops, buyer-seller meets, a Khadi fashion show and food stalls, among others.

The event will see models such as Sana Dua, Sonalika Sahay, Amanpreet Wahi, and Miss Nepal title winners Asmi Shrestha, Evana Manandhar flaunt designs by noted designers.

The exhibit will run through November 11.
