Poll alliances puzzle voters
The electoral alliances—the left and democratic alliances—have left the general voters in dilemma. The electoral alliances—the left and democratic alliances—have left the general voters in dilemma.
The voters are in confusion as parties, which were arch rivals not too long ago, have forged political alliances and are canvassing votes for one another. The CPN-UML and the CPN (Maoist Centre) forged a left alliance, while the Nepali Congress, the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, among others, have joined forces as ‘democratic alliance’ for the upcoming federal and provincial elections scheduled for November 26 and December 7.
“The Maoist Centre spit venom at the UML, terming the latter as the party against federalism yesterday. Today, they stand together. Bijaya Gachhadar claimed his group as the party of Tharu. Now he has joined the Congress party. Whom should we cast vote and on what basis?” questioned Nirmal Nepali of Tikapur Municipality-9.
The leaders and cadres of the erstwhile Nepal Loktantrik Forum are undecided about their vote in the upcoming elections. “We were involved in the movement for identity. Our leaders have defected to the Congress now,” said Somati Chaudhary, asking, “What should we say to the people now?”
