Bomb hoax terrifies people at Supreme Court

- Post Report, Kathmandu

Nov 22, 2017-

The Supreme Court cancelled all its proceedings on Tuesday following an anonymous call about a bomb planted on its promises. Police later concluded that it was a hoax.

A bomb disposal team of Nepal Police was rushed to the SC following the phone call. Trained dogs searched all the nooks and corners of the court including the benches but could not trace any suspicious object.

All the scheduled hearings were postponed as soon as the SC secretariat received the information at around 12:15pm on its toll-free number from a landline phone at Sundhara. The benches were evacuated immediately.

SC spokesperson Narayan Prasad Panthee received another call from a Dallu-based landline on his mobile at around 12:25pm. Inspector General of Police Prakash Aryal and Home Secretary Mohan Krishna Sapkota also reached the SC premises to take stock of the situation.

After police found nothing suspicious, SC spokesperson Panthee apologised for the scare. All the works of the SC were postponed due to the incident, said Govinda Ghimire, an officer at the SC’s administration department.

Police are said to be hunting for the miscreants.
