An improvised explosive device was detonated targeting Nepali Congress (NC) province assembly candidate Chandra Bahadur (CB) Tamang in Walting of Roshi Rural Municipality-10, Kavrepalanchok district on Wednesday.

According to journalist present at the incident site, the blast didn’t cause any damage as Tamang’s vehicle has moved past the area. Likewise, the explosion didn’t affect other vehicles accompanying Tamang’s election campaign and vehicles of security personnel from Area Police Office Mangaltar.

Police recovered splinters of pressure cooker form the incident site. SP at Kavrepalanchok District Police Office Sahkul Bahadur Thapa said police have been looking into the incident.

The blast was detonated when Tamang was heading for scheduled election programme in Mangar after attending a programme at Walting. The NC team cancelled their programme and returned to Banepa after the explosion.

This is the first incident of explosion targeted to election campaign in Kavre.
