Street play on the elections staged across the country
As the second round of the parliamentary and provincial elections nears, more than two dozen theatre groups are currently travelling across 45 districts around the country, where the elections are slated for this Thursday.As the second round of the parliamentary and provincial elections nears, more than two dozen theatre groups are currently travelling across 45 districts around the country, where the elections are slated for this Thursday. The troupes are focusing on disseminating awareness regarding the right way to cast ballots through street plays. Launched by the Election Commision, the programme is being coordinated by the Rastriya Nachghar and the Biratnagar-based Aarohan Gurukul theatre group.
On Friday, the play, titled Mahadan, was staged in various districts in six provinces.
The Chetana Samuha staged the play in districts in Province-1 such as Ilam, Jhapa, and Dhankuta. While Paribartan Natya Samuha staged the play in venues across Jhapa district. Likewise, the Biratnagar-based Aarohan Gurukul, also one of the co-ordinators, staged the play in Morang district.
While in Dhanusha, the play was staged in Maithali language by Lok Sanchar Samuha. “Among the participants were more women than men and the number of participation was more than what we had expected,” said Priyanka Jha, the director of the Maithali version of the play.
While In Bara district, the play was staged in Bhojpuri language.
The play was also staged in venues across districts such as Chitwan, Nawalparasi, Kavre, Tanahun, Syangja, among others.
