The strike, enforced for the past five days demanding Dhankuta be made the provincial capital of Province 2, had mostly affected transportation to and from Sankhuwasabha district.
Passengers, mostly businessman and patients, say they have to wait hours at Kewa Khola, where the two districts share their border. They say banda enforcers have allowed vehicles to run in between 11 pm to 5 am in Dhankuta but have created hurdles in multiple places affecting vehicular movement.
Locals said decreased number of flights by private airlines have further added to their woes. One Sher Bahadur Ban of Khandbari said Buddha Air usually operated three weekly flights to Tumlingtar Airport in Khandbari. Ban said Buddha has reduced flight number to two and didn't fly at all this week. Locals blame airline companies of become profit-oriented and increasing flight numbers only during peak tourist season.
Locals symbolically announce Dhankuta as provincial capital
Dhankuta locals have installed ministerial boards at various district-level offices to symbolically announce Dhankuta as capital of Province 1.
Hundreds of protestors took out a rally and installed 11 sign boards of various ministries at the offices.
Protests have been ongoing for the past few weeks demanding capitalhood.
