The taxis affiliated to the committee have blocked various chowks in the city including Prithvi Chowk, Sabhagriha Chowk among others as a part of their protest. This has resulted in obstruction of vehicular movement all around the city.
The taxi entrepreneurs’ protest comes a day after the police took 17 taxis under control and sent them for action at the Transport Management Office for not operating on meter.
“We took control of taxis after we received complaints of passengers being cheated by overcharging taxis,” said Kaski Police Chief SP Ashok Singh, “The taxi entrepreneurs may have thought that it would be better for them if they would not have to run on meter.”
Our correspondent tried contacting Pokhara Taxi Entrepreneurs Committee Chairman Prakash Mani Tiwari for his comment on the issue but his cell phone was switched off.
