The indefinite general strike enforced by locals demanding provincial Capital status for Dang affected the normal life in the district for the third consecutive day on Friday.
Locals of Dang has been protesting against the government decision to designate Rupandehi as the temporary Capital of Province 5 for the past three days.
Some government offices were shut voluntarily, while other offices were closed following pressure from the protesters today.
The strike brought the transportation service to a grinding halt while shops were shuttered in the market places, and educational institutions remained shut, throwing the normal life out of gear.
The protesters continued demonstration throughout the day in major marketplaces and thoroughfares, by burning tires on the road.
Vehicles travelling along the East-West Highway have been stranded in Dang, leaving hundreds of passengers in confusion.
A struggle committee that coordinates the general strike has demanded that the government revoke its decision to name Rupandehi as the temporary capital of the Province 5.
Struggle Committee Secretary and CPN (Maoist Centre) district co-incharge Nirmal Acharya warned that they will continue the general strike until the government changes its decision and names Dang as the temporary capital.
