Senior orthopedic surgeon at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) Dr Govinda KC, who has been facing a contempt of court case, has refused to accept the scheduled hearing. The Supreme Court had asked him to appear before the court on Tuesday.

In a statement on Tuesday, Dr KC stated that he would not appear before the court as the case is directly connected to the self-interests of Chief Justice (CJ) Gopal Parajuli.

He further said that he refused to produce himself before the court as CJ Justice had issued a directive to complete the hearing on the case within 10 days.

“There will not be an impartial hearing until CJ Parajuli is in the post,” he said, adding, “He will not appear before the court until CJ Parajuli resigns.”

Earlier on January 8, SC Section Officer Netra Bandhu Poudel had lodged a contempt of court case against Dr KC.

After the contempt of court case was lodged, a police team deployed from the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu, under the direction of SC, arrested Dr KC from the premises of TUTH.

Earlier, Dr KC and his team had filed a complaint at the District Administration Office, Kathmandu, against CJ Parajuli demanding investigation into the authenticity of his citizenship certificate.
