A man has been arrested for allegedly killing his girlfriend by assaulting her with a stone in a fit of rage in Kathmandu.

A police team deployed from the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu, detained Bijay Tamang of Tukedar for his alleged involvement in the murder of his girlfriend at squatter’s settlement in Basundhara of the Capital on Sunday night.  They had been living together for the past few months in Basundhara.

Police identified the deceased as Purnima BK while her permanent address is yet to be established.

According to a preliminary investigation, Tamang attacked his girlfriend with the stone after she refused to go to his room. Before the incident, the duo, who used to eke out their living as a daily wage workers, had consumed alcohol at a local tavern.

Police said that Tamang has already confessed to the crime.

During the interrogation, Tamang said that his girlfriend had been living outside for the past one week which escalated a dispute between them.

Police have arrested eight persons for their alleged involvement in the murder till Monday morning.
