The Supreme Court has scrapped the writ petition filed questioning the oath of office and secrecy administered by then Chief Justice Gopal Prasad Parajuli to President Bidya Devi Bhandari.

A single bench of Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla scrapped the petition Tuesday.

Advocates Narayan Kharel and Hem Mani Subedi had filed the writ petition, arguing that it was unconstitutional for a retired Chief Justice Parajuli to administer the oath of office to the newly elected President.

As per the Judicial Council record, Parajuli's term as Chief Justice had already expired on the basis of the date of birth certificates, added the advocates. RSS
