In a memorandum submitted to Mayor of Janakpur Sub-Metropolitan City, Lal Kishor Sah, and KMC Mayor Bidhya Sundar Shakya, the civil society members have demanded the mayors ask the Indian PM to apologise for the blockade and compensate for loss that Nepal suffered during the embargo.
“The blockade was against UN Charter Law, Oceans and the Laws of the Sea of United Nations and Nepal-India Trade Law,” read the letter submitted to the mayors, “If Indian PM Modi does not ask for forgiveness and compensate Nepal for the loss, then the Nepal-India relations will not be good.”
Likewise, the civil society members further stated that if Indian PM Modi does not apologise for the blockade during his Nepal visit, then the civil reception programme to be organised for the visiting Indian Prime Minister shall not be represented as the one done from the side of Nepali citizens.
