The ruling coalition partner, CPN (Maoist Centre) has urged the government to formulate the annual fiscal budget only after accommodating views from the two ruling parties.  The Maoist Centre has accused the CPN-UML of being dominant in the budget formulation process.

A meeting of the CPN (Maoist Centre) parliamentary party on Tuesday concluded that the budget should be prepared with the consent of both the ruling parties. “As the budget is being drafted, both the ruling parties should have equal participation in the process,” said CPN (Maoist Centre) Parliamentary Party chief whip Dev Gurung. “This is also the first year to implement the announcement of left alliance, so it is necessary to weigh priority based on work possibility.”

The Maoist Centre has also drawn the government’s attention towards the commitment made by left alliance during election campaign while formulating the budget. Noting that the left alliance won the elections because of the issues mentioned in the election manifesto, the party underscored the need to prepare the budget to honour the people’s mandate.

The party also opined that the budget should take into account the ways to make the provinces stronger and prosperous as this is the first budget after the country adopted federal structure.  Maoist Centre lawmakers drew the attention of Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal to remain wakeful to prevent domination of CPN-UML in the budget formulation.

The meeting also appointed Dina Nath Sharma as the party’s National Assembly leader. The meeting also endorsed the party’s parliamentary party statute.
