Gangster Ashok Lama was injured and hospitalised after police opened fire at him near UN Park in Lalitpur on Monday. Lama, 38, a member of notorious Dawa Lama gang, has sustained a gunshot to his leg. He has been taken to Bir Hospital in Kathmandu for treatment following the incident.
According to SP Narendra Uprety, a team of Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPCD) spotted Lama near UN Park and tried to search his body but he retaliated compelling the police to open shot at around 1:15 this afternoon. Police have recovered a pistol and two bullets from his possession.
Lama had already served jail terms for two separate murder cases and have been accused of several public offence case, said SP Uprety, also spokesperson of MPCD. He was allegedly involved in extortion from construction businessmen. He was also accused of lending money at usurious interest rate.
