Life in reflection

- Pramin Manandhar

Jun 30, 2018-

I have always been fascinated by reflections caught in puddles, mirrors, or glasses.  When I come across these, I see life existing in parallel universes—where each existence is similar to but also fundamentally different from another.

Every place has its own story and history, and in some way or another observing 1life on the streets often feels like watching theatre. With the shoddy urbanisation that Kathmandu and other cities have undergone, uncountable puddles have formed. And for better or for worse, when time allows, they transform into these works of art that is more attractive than the co-existing real life.

When life is caught in reflection, even ripples in the water, or variation of mirrors and structure of the glass, tell a different story altogether.

Here is a series of photographs from streets across Nepal that provides a reflective perspective of everyday stories of everyday people.

Morning walk at Swoyambu.

Keep me warm on a cold night.

Greener on the other side.

The climb is tough. A porter on his way to Phakding.

Reflecting on Khaptad.

Morning chitchat.

The transporters.

In a life where you can be anything, don’t be a chicken.

Ready for school.

Let Seto Macchindranath fill our lives with light.

The fruitsellers.
