All chiefs of seven provinces are likely to be removed from their posts in the wake of the government decision to revoke appointments made by erstwhile Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government.

A Cabinet meeting late on Wednesday decided to revoke the appointments made by the former government after the Election Code of Conduct came into effect.

Deuba government on January 17 had appointed chiefs in seven provinces. It had appointed Gobinda Bahadur Tumbahang as chief of Province 1, Ratneshwor Lal Kayastha in Province 2, AnuradhaKoirala in Province 3, BaburamKunwar in Province 4, UmakantaJha in Province 4, DurgeshworKhanal in Province 6 and Mohan Raj Malla in Province 7.

Law Minister Sher Bahadur Tamang said the decision to revoke political appointments made by Deuba government will also be implemented in the case of provincial chiefs.

However, the clause B of Article 165 of constitution states that the position of the provincial chiefs will be vacated only after she/he is removed by the president.
