PM to direct ministers, secys on implementing policies, programmes
The government plans to set up a mechanism at the PMO to execute the policies and programmes
Jul 9, 2018-Prime Minister KP Oli will on Wednesday instruct deputy prime ministers, ministers, state ministers and government secretaries on ways to effectively implement government’s policies and programmes, according to sources at the Prime Minister’s Office.
At a meeting held on June 8 with deputy prime ministers, ministers, vice-chairman and members of the National Planning Commission and secretaries, PM Oli had asked the top bureaucrats to submit their plans to Chief Secretary Lok Darshan Regmi. It was decided then that each secretary would make a presentation on July 9 of their respective plans for implementation of specific programmes and policies. Originally scheduled for Monday, the meeting was postponed for Wednesday after the secretaries failed to submit such innovative ideas on time.
During the meeting, all government secretaries are expected to submit their ideas to implement the policies and programmes, said the PMO official, adding that all the secretaries have already shared their ideas with Chief Secretary Regmi.
Addressing the June 8 meeting, PM Oli had stressed that people have huge expectations from the government that commands an overwhelming majority in Parliament. He said the new government would not be excused for not translating its commitments into action. He reminded the top officials that it was time that everyone acted in a serious manner with “sheer determination and long-term thought and vision”.
The PM also categorically told the top officials that time had come to change the old development model, calling for a fresh determination to accomplish the set goals. Having heard from each of the secretaries, the government is planning to set up a mechanism at the PMO to execute the policies and programmes from new fiscal year beginning mid- July.
