According to the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA), Rs100, 000 was distributed to each of 208,043 households who have either completed rebuilding their homes or taken the reconstruction works to the final leg. As many as 234,942 households are qualified for the third tranche of government support.
Referring to the recent statistics, the NRA in its statement on Friday said the reconstruction process of a sizable number of home are in the final stage.
“This indicates a growth in the pace of reconstruction works in recent days,” it said.
In the immediate aftermath of the 2015 Gorkha Earthquake, the government had decided to provide Rs200, 000 for each household in rebuilding aid. It was later increased to Rs300, 000 to be distributed in three instalments of Rs50, 000, Rs150, 000 and Rs100, 000 to ensure that the quake survivors rebuild quake-resilient homes in line with the standards and designs specified by the government. Similarly, the government had decided to release Rs100, 000 for retrofitting structures in the 14 districts worst hit by the earthquake. Out of the total 996,582 houses that the NRA has surveyed, 807,486 have been marked as eligible for the government aid. The government has reached a grant agreement with 721,736 households. The number of beneficiaries eligible for retrofitting support has reached 52,054.
Dolakha has the highest number of claims for third tranche of reconstruction aid among the quake-affected districts. A total of 33,582 households in Dolokha have applied for the aid, followed by 30,444 households in Sindhupalchok and 29,880 in Gorkha.
Meanwhile, the number of beneficiaries obtaining second tranche has reached 449,338. Those completing DPC (damp-proof course) level are eligible to apply for the second instalment of the government aid.
