However, the police are still clueless as to who were behind the incident, said Morang Police Chief SP Manoj KC. The police had detained eight individuals in connection with the IED explosion yesterday.
“We don’t have enough proof to claim that someone was responsible for the explosion,” said SP KC, “The eight individuals we detained after the blast are not connected to the incident.”
Meanwhile, Jai Krishna Goit-led Tarai Janatantrik Mukti Morcha (Revolutionary) had issued a statement claiming responsibility for the explosion. The underground armed outfit sent a statement to one of our correspondents in Province 2, claiming the blast. The statement claimed the Morcha planted the IED to send out the message that its activities were not just limited in Saptari and Siraha districts of Province 2.
SP KC informed that the police are investigating whether the blast was carried out by Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal or Goit-led outfit.
The office walls, windows, furniture and the rear windshield of Parajuli’s car were damaged in the explosion.
Police said there were no casualties as the incident occurred during lunch hour.
Mayor Parajuli, his staff and a few service seekers were inside the office at the time of the blast.
