SC orders release of CPN spokesperson Bishwakarma

The apex court, hearing on a habeas corpus writ today, ordered the authorities to free Bishwokarma, citing that the police detained him without abiding by the Criminal Code.
Expressing serious concerns over the repeated arrests of Bishwakarma not with standing orders from the apex court and district courts in Kavre and Nuwakot, the SC has drawn the government’s attention towards the same.
The CPN spokesperson was first arrested by the police from Dakshinkali, Kathmandu on August 7 on the charges of disturbing peace in the society and indulging in extortion.
On August 14, the apex court had ordered the authorities to present Bishwokarma before the court within 48 hours after his son filed a habeas corpus writ.
Hearing on the writ, the SC on August 17 had ordered the government to release Bishwokarma. Soon after releasing Bishwakarma, the police arrested him against from the Supreme Court premises for his involvement in the Ncell tower’s arson case.
In the second instance, Bishwokarma was re-arrested from the premises of the Supreme Court on August 23 shortly after releasing him following the court order.
