NCSS honours KC with special award

KC, who played a crucial role in Nepal’s miraculous progress from the ICC World Cricket League Division 2 in Namibia early this year, was rewarded with Special Honour which carried a cash pirze of Rs 100,000. Bajracharya, a former treasurer with NCSS, had passed away four months ago due to brain hemorrhage.
Another cricketer, Hari Bahadur Chauhan, was also honoured with the Emerging Cricketer Honour. Chauhan, who was not present in the programme, was rewarded with Rs 25,000. Chauhan was named the emerging cricketer of the Prime Minister One Day National cricket tournament held in June at the TU grounds where he slammed a century and took a hat-trick in a single match while playing for Province 4 team.
KC, a fast bowling allrounder, had guided Nepal to World Cup Qualifiers – a Division 1 tournament – in Zimbabwe after he did the unthinkable by sharing an unbeaten 51 runs for the last wicket with Sandeep Lamichhane when Nepal needed 195 runs to win. The win ensured Nepal progress into the World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe from where Nepal became a One Day International nation for the first time.
“Every cricketer’s desire is to play very well for the team. It really feels great when I remember that innings. I would like to thank NCSS for this honour because felicitation like these will motivate every cricketer to do very well for the country,” said KC during the programme.
NCSS Chairman Bhanu Sigdel said the honour was pre-planned. “We had wanted to honour Karan and Hari following their performance in the two respective tournaments. But due to national team’s tight schedule, we had to postpone this programme,” said Sigdel who said the honour programme will now get continuity for every year.
NCSS had collected the prize amount from their members, while it has been also supporting the national and international cricketers at different ocassions. NCSS on Saturday also honoured Mahendra Gurung as their best volunteer for the year.
