A monitoring team led by State Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Ram Kumari Chaudhary carried out monitoring of five slaughterhouses in Lagankhel, Lalitpur today morning.
The monitoring team found that four out of five slaughterhouses were operating without following standard guidelines on registration and cleanliness and were selling unhealthy meat products.
According to Department of Livestock Services Director General Bimal Kumar Nirmal, the slaughterhouses of Mukesh Khadgi (RK Meat Shop), Saroj Shahi (A One Meat Shop) and slaughterhouses operated by Dev Khadgi and Sunil Khadgi, which were not registered, have been banned from selling/ buying meat products until the time they revamp their workplaces as per the standard.
“No attention to cleanliness had been given at the slaughterhouses that have been shutdown and we found that they were selling female buffalo meat in place of male buffalo,” said Nirmal, “We had warned the slaughterhouses earlier to conform to the given standards but since they ignored our warning we have shut down their businesses.”
Meanwhile, the officials from Metropolitan Office and police have been given the responsibility to destroy the unhygienic meat products confiscated from the sites.
State Minister Chaydhary said that they will continue monitoring and regulate business who have been careless and are putting human lives at risk.
