Dhangadi Sub-Metropolitan City has remained shut for the second consecutive day on Sunday due to the protest over shifting the capital of Sudurpaschim province from Dhangadi to Godawari of Kailali.

As a result of the bandh, markets in Dhangadi have remained closed while transportation services have been halted including long distance bus services and educational institutions have also remained shut.

Protesters said that they did not want to shutdown markets in the wake of upcoming Dashain and Tihar festival but were left with no other option than to call for a bandh as the ruling faction unjustly moved ahead with declaring the provincial capital.

On Friday, the Province Assembly, through voting, had passed the proposal of naming the province Sudurpaschin with its capital in Godawari.
