APF beat NPC to claim national volleyball title

Nepal Armed Police Force Club (APF) claimed the title of the 22nd National Women’s Volleyball tournament defeating archrivals Nepal Police Club (NPC) in straight sets in Galkot, Baglung, on Saturday.
APF eased past Police 25-20, 25-15, 25-23 in the final of the five-day event organised jointly by Nepal Volleyball Association and coordinated by Baglung District Volleyball Association. The victory fetched APF a purse of Rs 70,000 along with trophy. Runners up Police walked away with Rs 50,000.
The third place playoff match saw Tribhuvan Army Club registering a comfortable victory over Province No 5. Army raced to 25-12, 25-9, 25-12 victory and collected cash prize of Rs 30,000.
APF spiker Saraswati Chaudhary was declared the-best-player of the tournament and received cash prize of Rs 10,000. Chaudhary said that discipline, regular training and hard work were key factors to the team’s success. “It is essential that the team maintains discipline and remain vibrant along with putting better performance to achieve success,” said Chaudhary. “Now we need to capitalise on our domestic accomplishments to get better results in the South Asian Games (SAG).”
Chaudhary’s APF teammate Manisha Tamang was declared the best defender and Hira KC won the best blocker award. Police players Kamala Pun won the best setter and Kopila Upreti took home best server award while Niruta Thagunna of Army was named the best spiker. All of them received Rs 5,000 each.
