One shot dead as NCP, NC cadres clash in Sarlahi

A person sustained a bullet and died when shots were fired during a clash between cadres of ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) and Nepali Congress (NC) in Sarlahi district on Tuesday. The clash occurred at Ramnagar Rural Municipality-4 in the district.
The deceased has been identified as Rambilas Mahato, 60, of Bahurwa in Ramnagar Rural Municipality-4.
SP Poshraj Pokharel said Mahato died on the spot during the clash at around 8 in the morning. Four others were injured in the clash.
Police said the situation in the area has remained tense and a police team deployed from the district headquarters has not reached the site yet.
SP Pokharel said there was a long-standing political dispute in the village. Deceased Mahato was the uncle of Ramnagar Rural Municipality Ward-4 chairperson Ram Naresh Mahato. There were multiple disputes with cadres of then CPN (Maoist Center) after a NC candidate was elected as chairperson in the ward. Deceased Mahato was also manhandled on Monday.
Police said they were not certain about who fired the shots. The injured are receiving treatment at local health centers.
