Bishal Sushling struck a magnificent century as Province 2 signed off from the Manmohan Memorial Cup One Day National cricket tournament with a crushing 208-run victory over hosts Shanti Deep Club on Monday.
Electing to bat first, Province 2 amassed 301-6 in 50 overs after Sushling became the second player to strike a century in the tournament. A day earlier, Prem Tamang had hammered a scintillating 138 in Nepal Police Club’s big victory over the hosts. A hapless Shanti Deep side in reply were bundled out for just 93 runs in 25.2 overs.
With just one team making it to the semi-final from the pool, NPC are already through with Province 2 and Shanti Deep knocked out. On Tuesday, Province 3 will take on Tribhuvan Army Club.
Province 2 innings revolved around Sushling who struck a 108-ball 111 striking 15 boundaries and one six. Aashu Kandoi chipped in 77, while Hari Shankar Sah also contributed 44 runs to the team total.
With few star players included in the Province 2 squad, Shanti Deep never posed a threat to their opponents and were skittled out for a low total. Saroj Basnet top scored for the hosts with 15 runs, while other batsmen were undone by disciplined Province 2 bowling attack. Rashid Khan alone picked up four wickets for the winning side.
Skipper Sharad Basnet said his side was not able to make most of the local conditions despite being habituated with the pitch. Province 2 skipper Mehboob Alam was dejected by not getting another chance in the league after his team lost only one match in the tournament.
